Best Lexus Tech Features You Might Not Be Using (Fridays are for F Presented by Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus)
A recent study ranked Lexus at the top for vehicle technology; so why are are so many drivers not using these features?
J.D. Power just released their annual report on vehicle technology. What they discovered in the study was surprising, if not a bit confusing. The good news is that Lexus was cited for its excellence and innovation in technology. And the bad news is that a sizable number of drivers might not be using these cool Lexus features, nor do they intend to.
In the 2021 U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Survey, J.D. Power found many drivers consider technology an important and influential factor in purchasing a vehicle. Conversely, an also sizeable number of drivers said they were they not using special features, nor do they plan to.
What the F? And by that we mean: with the Lexus F tailored for high caliber performance, we would recommend checking out all the options to get the optimum performance. We also think this is a fitting choice for this week’s Fridays are for F.
2021 marked the first year that the Lexus IS 350 F-Sport went from a package to a nameplate in the F performance models line. A smart move that elevated the IS F Sport and hit with drivers.
The 2021 Lexus IS received the Premium Model Emerging Automation Award for its reverse automatic emergency braking technology. Lexus IS also nabbed the award for Top Premium Model Infotainment and Connectivity, citing the virtual assistant connectivity as exceptional technology.
When Club Lexus reviewed the IS 350 F-Sport, the intuitive technology and the awesome 8- or 10.3-inch touchscreen stood out as a major highs. As a car that was born from the punishing Shimoyama track in Japan, its got moves too.
Lexus RC F and IS 350 F-Sport both come with a host of very useful tech features. RC F models offer standard tech features including Scout GPS Link navigation, and a 10-speaker audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio, bluetooth connectivity, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
They bring out the best of the beast, while increasing safety, reliability, and overall driver experience.
In our opinion and experience, there are some features that are too good and too necessary to pass on.
Technology Features You Definitely Should Be Using:
- Standard safety suite new added features include left-turn intersection support and enhanced lane tracing technology.
- Dynamic Handling Package. This adds an optimized Adaptive Variable Suspension, Torsen 6 limited-slip rear differential (RWD) and lightweight carbon fiber components to enrich performance, handling, power.
- Forward collision mitigation, which warns of an impending collision and applies the brakes in some emergency situations.
- Lane keeping system that makes minor steering corrections to help you stay in your lane.
- Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. This warns the driver if a vehicle is in their blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse.
- Adaptive cruise control. Adjusts speed to maintain a constant, safe distance between the vehicle and the car in front.
- Traffic sign reader. It sees road signs–including speed limits–and displays them to the driver.
- Scout GPS Link Navigation system
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration
Why are drivers not utilizing this very cool technology? One main reason is cost.
“New-vehicle prices are at an all-time high, partly as a result of an increased level of content,” said Kristin Kolodge, executive director of human machine interface at J.D. Power. “This is fine if owners are getting value for their money, but some features seem like a waste to many owners.”
In compiling the study J.D. Power got responses from 110,827 owners of new 2021 vehicles across the industry who were surveyed after 90 days of ownership. And the result was that for more than one in three advanced technologies, fewer than half of owners have used the technology in the first 90 days of ownership. Those that didn’t use the technology most often responded that they don’t feel a need for these technologies. For example, 61% of owners say they have never used the in-vehicle digital technology, and 51% of those saying they have no need for it.
However, when companies offer the right technology executed well, it positively influences an owner’s decision to purchase. Again, this is an area where the Lexus F nails it.
“Automakers suffer a hit to profits and sales velocity if they build the wrong mix of features on their vehicles,” said Kolodge. “The TXI research quantifies the benefits when there is alignment between what owners truly want and what the automakers produce.”
When a driver buys a Lexus F they tend to want all the technology and options at their disposal to get the full high-performance experience. Not all technology is going to fit everyone. But Lexus has a host of tech options for the F Performance that are smart, helpful, and deliver a more enhanced and satisfying ride.
