‘Club Lexus’ Checks Out Our Favorite Cars in Chicago
Flare Yellow is a newly available color on the LC 500 Convertible and takes center stage for Lexus at the Chicago Auto Show.
Lexus was very particular with their cars in terms of color for this year’s Chicago Auto Show, which kicked off February 8 and runs through the 17th. A sea of black, grey and white was contrasted by an LC which took center stage in their booth. That car was a Flare Yellow LC convertible. With a chance to get up close to this convertible, we simply couldn’t stop snapping away at this photogenic ride, so excuse the large number of images.
As reported prior, there aren’t too many big changes between the convertible and the LC 500 coupe we all know and love. Some subtle rear bodywork has changed to accommodate the new lines of the drop-top, but otherwise the wide and low stance is still as imposing as ever. The color is new, however, but mechanically, it is all the same as the LC 500 coupe. Of course with the occupied space needed for the convertible top and chassis stiffening, an LC 500h hybrid is not planned. We’re somewhat OK with that. But it would be interesting to see if an LC F convertible would be planned in the future.
Speaking of the LC F, it is a car that has been on our minds lately after seeing spy video of their twin turbo V8 racer testing in Japan. We spoke to Lexus representatives and we weren’t able to find out any additional information on the up-coming LC F. Despite our prodding and pleading, they remained tight lipped.
Also present were two other unique Lexuses. The first is an IMSA GTD Lexus RC F GT3 race car. Fresh from a showing at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, this race car’s livery is a stunning contrast of neon yellow and black. Although it finished 12th in class at the 24 hour race, we still applaud Lexus’ efforts.
Also present was a neat charity car. Cal’s Angels is a pediatric cancer charity and has been a partner with Lexus for a number of years. With a gold-ribbon wrap on an LC500, Cal’s Angles is hoping to raise awareness – and funds – to their good cause. As fans of Lexus, we couldn’t be more proud that they are supporting such an incredibly good cause.
