Do You Love or Hate Lexus’ New Styling Direction?

Lexus Lineup

The shift in Lexus’ design language has made quite an impact. And Club Lexus members have plenty to say about it.

It’s no secret that we here at Club Lexus love our old school models. From the very first LS and SC to the legendary IS-F, there was a time when our rides didn’t look like they wanted to eat us alive. Lexus once employed styling that was attractive but wholly inoffensive. Some people miss this look, of course. But the automaker has gone in a different direction lately in an effort to shed it’s “boring” image. And suffice to say, that decision is slightly controversial with the folks in the Club Lexus forums.

Count 703, who hates the “ugly looking grills of today” among the modern Lexus detractors. But is he in the majority or the minority?

Mike728 certainly disagrees and thinks that in this case, progress was necessary.

“Well, the LFA and the IS-C look good. The rest just look dated and bland to me. There’s a reason things change.”

User arentz07 seconds that thought.

“While I do like the looks of the previous-gen Lexi, I don’t think they would work well in today’s market. They are outdated now, IMHO, especially with the more rounded, thicker headlight and taillight designs.”

The OP doesn’t agree, however.

“I just like timeless designs. Some may call boring, but why do you want to date stamp something so obviously. For those who think these designs won’t work today – you’re wrong. Audi has the most conservative designs and they are just doing great – stealing customers from the Lexus camp.”

Plus, many don’t particularly like the new Lexus “Predator” grille. Including riredale, who likens the look to old school Cadillac fins.

“I bought a ’10 RX precisely because I didn’t want the predator grille. Taste, of course, is highly subjective. But here’s how the current crop of Lexi will one day be regarded, styling-wise:”
