GS 350 Build Subtle Despite Slammed Stance
This 2008 GS 350 build proves you don’t need to go so hard with the right mods in place.
Although the (dearly departed) Lexus GS was more for executives who couldn’t get into an LS (yet), it’s still an awesome platform for more than a few ideas. Such is the case with this 2008 GS 350 AWD built by Club Lexus member kddang. Rather than carving corners, though, this one turns up the executive vibes to 11.
“Hello Club Lexus! Here’s my first Lexus build, enjoy,” wrote kddang in 2018. “Purchased [2017] in July with 82k miles on it. Mercury Metallic with black interior.”
Before its biggest upgrade occurred, the GS 350 already had tint and LED bulbs inside and out, plus paint correction and ceramic coating. Not a lot on the mod table, but that may have been the point all along.
That major upgrade, by the way? The AirLift Performance airbag suspension, allowing his GS 350 to roll low across the streets of his SoCal home. Of course, you can’t just slam your Lexus on its stock wheels and tires. Thus, after wearing a set of Volk TE-37s borrowed from a friend of the builder, the GS received its own set of chrome, 19-inch Weds Kranze Vishnus. And for tires, a set of Federal Super Steel 595s would only do.
Of course, lowering a car like an all-wheel-drive GS 350 does present its own problems. Though it was built for the weekends, the all-wheel-drive system meant lots of unwanted vibrations cruising for the hot photo spots around Los Angeles. In fact, the not-so-good vibes may have been the main cause of this project coming to a close in 2020, when he restored the Lexus to its stock setup.
Today, the builder is working on a 2013 GS F Sport in Rivera Red, which he bought from his brother (and fellow Club Lexus member) last October.
Though it, too, is all-wheel drive, the vibration issue is not there. May this one continue to bring the VIP life to the streets and nighttime meetups for a long time to come.
