Whether you’re going out into the desert or just a trip to the amusement park in your Lexus, these 10 tips will get you there safe and sound.

The Fourth of July is around the corner, summer is in full swing, it’s time to hit the road in your Lexus! Some have turned your LX and GX machines into overlanding cruisers. Others are making the most of their LC and IS rides on the weekends. Even ES owners are ready to praise the sun, surf and sand.

But are you ready? Whether it’s a week-long trek into the desert, or a trip to the biggest amusement park around, you’ve gotta make sure your drive down Holiday Road goes smoothly. Here are 10 tips to get you and your Lexus ready for the adventures ahead.

1. Let Everyone Know Your Travel Plans

This is the most important tip of all. No matter if you’re going across the country, or just to the next town, telling your loved ones your travel plans will not only give them peace of mind, but also the info they might need to tell others should things go wrong.

2. Check Your Gear

Overlanders, is your gear in good condition? When you’re in the great outdoors, everything from your roof tent to your sleeping bag will keep you and yours protected from the elements. If things are broken, worn out, or rusty, replace them as soon as possible.

3. Check Your Lexus’s Health

How’s the tire pressure on your LC? Oil levels good in your ES Hybrid? Checking all those things and more (or having your mechanic do it for you) guarantees your trip will go as well as it can, barring the unforeseen.

4. Stock Up on First Aid, Roadside Gear

Speaking of the unforeseen, accidents happen. When they do, you’ll definitely want to be prepared. Your first aid and roadside kits, whether you bought them with your Lexus, or gathered the supplies elsewhere, will need to be stocked up from time to time. Make sure to hit up your local stores before hitting the road.

5. Keep an Eye on Fuel Prices

Whether you’ve got a Lexus hybrid powertrain or monster V8 under the hood, you’ll definitely want to keep as much green in your wallet as possible at the pump. Everyone else is hitting the road, which means increasing fuel prices. Apps such as Gas Buddy, Gas Guru, and Waze will keep you in the know along the way, and where you’ll be staying.

6. Bring on the Knowledge and Fun

Those trips can be pretty long, even if you’re in the lap of luxury. Luckily, fun, knowledge and more are just an app away. From audio books via Audible, to videos downloaded for offline viewing via YouTube, there’s always a way to break up the monotony of a voyage.

7. Paper Maps Can Be a Blessing

Yes, you have Apple Maps, Google Maps, and the maps in your Lexus infotainment screen to get you to your destination. However, those systems could unexpectedly fail. When that happens, a paper map or atlas will pick up where your tech left off.

8. Prepare for the Weather

Whether you’re heading outside to sleep under the stars, or explore the carnival rides, the weather can either make your vacation memorable for all the right reasons, or for the wrong ones. It’s good to keep an eye on the forecast not only at home, but along the way to your vacation stop.

9. Keep Your Insurance and Registration Updated

Now is a good time to make sure everything is in order as far as your insurance and registration go. You never know if you’ll end up in an accident or pulled over for an infraction during your trip. If it’s time to renew, do so before your trip.

10. The Journey is the Destination

After everything else, remember to relax and enjoy the open road. Having a Lexus certainly helps, due to its reliability and luxury. Being with those you love in your Lexus on the great road trip is a wonderful thing, too.
