How-To Tuesday: Replacing Your Lexus’s Brake Fluid
Alright, stop what you’re doing.
Now, if that stop wasn’t nearly as precise as you’d hoped, then perhaps it’s time to replace your brake fuel. Oh, and it’s definitely time to stop reading Club Lexus while you’re driving.
While we can’t help you with the latter, today’s How-To Tuesday article (and the corresponding video below) is a great resource for you novice DIYers looking to learn a thing or two about your Lexus, and save a few bucks while you’re at it. In fact, this DIY project should cost you less than $20, whereas you’re looking at a pro cost upwards of $120. And the whole project should take you less than an hour.
First things first, you’ll need some supplies. The article will walk you through the specifics, but basically you need brake fluid, a 10mm wrench, some plastic tubing, a turkey baster, and a tall bucket. And if you can commandeer an assistant, that would be helpful too.
After that, it’s just five easy steps to less mushy brakes: covering the fenders, draining the old fluid, bleeding the brakes, refilling the level of fluid in the master cylinder, topping off and cleaning up. And that’s that.
One last tip, though: if you’re planning on using your kitchen turkey baster to suction out the brake fluid, do yourself a favor and get a new one before Thanksgiving. Because turkey doesn’t really taste as good with a tinge of brake fluid.
