Generally speaking, it’s good to be even-handed. But it’s specifically important when you’re talking about tire wear.

There are two main reasons why you’re experiencing uneven tire wear, and neither of them are good for the performance of your Lexus. But worry not, today’s How-To Tuesday article is here to help, not only to find the cause of the problem, but also to help you figure out the fix.

Air pressure is the biggest reason behind your uneven treads. Make sure to get that air pressure at the correct number, as recommended by the manual. And keep in mind, the front and rear tires could have different PSI recommendations. Under inflation can give your tire excessive shoulder wear, over inflation can lead to excessive inner wear.

If it’s not the air pressure, odds are good your uneven tires are being caused by alignment issues. Misalignment will cause one of three different wear patterns on your tires — heel and toe wear, feathered wear, and shoulder wear. The article will help you identify which one you’re experiencing. Whichever pattern you’re experiencing though, it’s probably time to have your tires aligned and rotated by the pros.
