Infamous Wrecked Lexus LFA Went To a Copart Auction in Latest Plot Twist
The owner of this wrecked Lexus LFA was previously planning on fixing it up, but now, it’s looking for a new home.
There’s no doubt that the Lexus LFA is among the greatest supercars ever made, a high-revving, sweet-sounding, V10-powered machine that has seen its values increase exponentially as of late. Most of the small handful of Lexus LFA models built have been babied, stored away, and driven sparingly, as is the case with most pricey exotics, but that isn’t universally the case. In fact, one owner that resides near Atlanta previously rose to internet fame after letting a kid jump all over its roof, after which he hydroplaned and crashed it. Now, that same internet-famous, wrecked Lexus LFA is apparently for sale.
Back in February, David Patterson of the YouTube channel That Dude in Blue was able to meet the owner of this wrecked Lexus LFA and its owner, who said at the time that he planned on fixing the car and returning it to its former glory. However, he also admitted that it was likely to cost an obscene amount of money – hundreds of thousands of dollars – to get to that point. Now, it seems as if he’s given up on that idea, because the wrecked Lexus LFA is now up for sale at Copart.
(UPDATE – it appears someone has purchased the LFA or that the auction was ended early for other reasons. The above Copart listing no longer links to an active page.)
It’s seemingly likely that reported repair estimate of $500,000 required to fix this poor LFA was simply deemed too much to bear, even though the car’s estimated retail value is north of $700k. Thus, it was probably released to the insurer, which is why it’s up for grabs at everyone’s favorite project car auction site. It isn’t exactly every day that a salvaged LFA becomes available, so we have to imagine that this one will drum up some interest – if nothing else, as a potential project for some YouTuber.
Regardless, whoever decides to tackle that daunting task will certainly have their work cut out for them – as we previously saw, and can see even better in these photos – this wrecked Lexus LFA is a real basket case after the owner hydroplaned in some rain and proceeded to hit a fire hydrant and run into an embankment. The carbon fiber body suffered heavy damage, there’s shattered glass quite literally everywhere, and the rear bumper is mostly gone.
The undercarriage is in even worse condition, and there are quite a few parts that are either completely missing or damaged to the point where they’d have to be replaced – parts that won’t be easy to find or cheap to procure. Regardless, we have to imagine that someone will be more than happy to take on that challenge – or, at the very least, use this mangled up LFA as an engine donor for some cool project.
