Jay-Z’s Iconic 1993 Lexus GS 300 Part of New Special Exhibit
The very same ‘off-white’ 1993 Lexus GS 300 that starred in Dead Presidents and was mentioned in multiple other hit songs.
Jay-Z – or Shawn Corey Carter, as he’s otherwise known – is widely considered to be among the greatest rappers to have ever done it, a New York native that had already co-founded a record label by the age of 26, and today, owns an array of businesses and is the wealthiest musical artist on the planet. It’s hard to quantify Carter’s success, as we’re talking about a guy who not only turned his rap career into a billion-dollar net worth, but he’s also sold 140 million records, earned 24 Grammy Awards, and has won more other types of awards than we can possibly even list here. Thus, perhaps it’s no surprise that his iconic 1993 Lexus GS 300 is now part of a new exhibit called “The Book Of HOV” at Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Location.
This 1993 Lexus GS 300 should look familiar to Jay-Z fans given the fact that it was the star of the music video for the smash hit Dead Presidents in 1996, and the “off-white Lexus” was also mentioned in the songs Can I Live and Empire State of Mind. Thus far, The Book of HOV has proven to be a smash hit on its own accord since it originally opened back in July 14, raking in more than 255,000 visitors to the library – four times as many as 2022 – and it has resulted in 21,000 new library card-carrying members thanks to a line of limited-edition Jay-Z cards.
However, the exhibit itself was kept a secret from Carter during the planning and setup stages, and sprung on him as a bit of a surprise during the reveal. Now, the immersive display is adding its very first new artifact, which aims to pay tribute to the man’s global impact as a musician, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and disruptor, as well as as a celebration for his hometown of Brooklyn and the broader hip-hop community across the world. The exhibit is set to run through December, and fans can head over and experience it for themselves – along with the 1993 Lexus GS 300 – until then.
