Jeremy Clarkson’s Favorite Car Is Still the Lexus LFA. Here’s Why…
He hates how many issues the LFA has, but Clarkson won’t change his mind that the V10-powered Lexus makes a sound unlike any other car.
Jeremy Clarkson is most likely one of the most recognizable figures in automotive culture today and he’s not known for being a nice guy. He’s notoriously harsh with cars and the people who make them and he will have his coveted opinion be known to the public. The thing about Clarkson is that his opinion is not just any old opinion, people listen to it. That’s why this interview he filmed while taking a short break at a London pub peeked our interest.
One of the questions asked to Jeremy was if he still thinks that the Lexus LFA is the best car that he has ever driven. His answer: Still is. Why does Clarkson feel so strongly towards the car? His favorite aspect is “the noise it makes principally”. We like think that as a very British answer. However, Clarkson is not all praise for his favorite car. He says actually, that the car has all sorts of different things wrong with it like the size of the fuel tank and the poorly-designed seat belt system.
However, even with its issues the 1LR-GUE V10 is simply too good to knock. When you describe the sound of a car as “spine-tingling” we understand why you might be willing to overlook some the littler issues that come along with it. It’s almost like like a healthy relationship, you know to take the good with the bad (you just hope there is a lot more good than bad). Jeremy Clarkson goes on to clarify the difference between the visceral experience it is to drive an LFA compared to the driving experience of an electric car. Let’s just say that its a little more than crude and if you want to know, it’s simply best to watch the whole video.
In Clarkson’s original review of the car back in March of 2013, he called the gear changes on the sequential gearbox “slow and savage”. The next sentence, he is comparing the LFA to the Mona Lisa. Then he complains about how many issues there are with the car for several paragraphs. However, his conclusion is still that its the best car he’s ever driven. Is it that good? It is that good.
What do you guys think about the LFA in 2019? Has it aged well or has it been eclipsed by the vast amount of modern-day supercars? Let us know in the comments below.
