Land Cruiser FJ75 Coming to Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2021
Fully restored with OEM parts, rare-to-the-U.S. Land Cruiser ready to cross the block in March before crossing the desert to a new home.
Before Lexus fans had a beefy SUV of their own, they had the Land Cruiser to take their biggest luggage around. Toyota’s top-tier SUV had everything a Lexus could want without the badge: a luxurious interior, all the amenities for a comfortable voyage, and plenty of power to move.
Some Land Cruisers, though, didn’t come over to the United States. One of them was the FJ70 series, built to this day since 1984. This 1992 FJ75 landed on our shores some time ago. Now, it’s about to cross the auction block at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale 2021 happening, now set for March 24 through 28.
Nearly 30 now, the Land Cruiser troop carrier underwent a major restoration to bring it back to showroom-shape. Through the use of OEM parts (again, the FJ70 series is still in production today), it looks even better than it did when it first left the factory back in the early Nineties.
Powering this Land Cruiser is its 4.0-liter 1GR-FE V6, currently found in the GX 400. The engine, of course, is new to the ’92 model, as it wasn’t placed into the FJ70 series until 2009. It’s certainly a jump in power compared to the 22R or 3F it likely had before, with up to 240 horses and 278 lb-ft of torque available. A five-speed manual guides the horses on the way to the corners.
Inside, new tan plaid and brown leather upholstery dress up the seating. There’s also factory HVAC to keep things more comfortable, and a stereo system to keep everyone entertained. And speaking of comfortable, a foam-cell suspension kit will dominate any bump the Land Cruiser’s new Toyo all-terrains go over. Throw in a snorkel for those times when it needs to drive through a deep river, too.
This Land Cruiser is ready to conquer the desert outside of Scottsdale. The lucky owner to land the winning bid will have something they can be proud to park next to their LS or RC F. Or even, perhaps, an LX in need of a new friend.
