LC 500 Tears Up the Autobahn and Sounds Great Doing It
LC 500 shows off its grace and agility on Germany’s notorious proving grounds.
The Lexus SC was, at times, a legendary touring car. Through good and bad, Lexus kept making the SC up until 2010, when the company finally decided enough was enough. The Lexus LC 500 picked up the SC’s torch, and it was something completely different. And ultimately, the LC 500 has become one of the more interesting cars from that line.
But words are one thing, and actions are quite another. To make that point crystal clear, we turn to this video by Automann-TV. The You Tube channel recently took a 2020 LC 500 to the Autobahn to put it through its paces. It is a perfect place to let the LC 500 really prove itself. While the numbers are impressive, the car’s beauty and gnarly sound are the true highlights of the show.
“Today, we have the acceleration run on the Autobahn in the Lexus LC 500,” announces the Automann-TV host from the car’s cockpit. “Yes, this is the very, very good sounding, naturally aspirated V8 version. [It has a] wonderful shape from the outside plus a very, very nice interior and some nice design elements. [And it has] a nice quiet cabin and is a cool car to drive around.”
‘The Lexus LC 500 has a nice quiet cabin and is a cool car to drive around.’
Indeed, the LC looks and sounds great, which is the whole point of the car. When Lexus released the Lexus LC in 2018, it impressed by sporting a beautiful and futuristic design and a big, rowdy V8. And in this video, which films a lot from the interior cabin, we get to see, hear, and almost feel that powerplant’s power.
With traction control off and the car in manual shift mode, the driver is able to crack off a 0-62 mph time of just 4.8 seconds, and a 0-124 mph time of 15.3 seconds. Finally, the driver reaches about 150 mph in 26.8 seconds.
Those aren’t supercar numbers, but raw speed isn’t the LC 500’s purpose in life. As the driver notes in the video, the Lexus is supremely comfortable and rightly says that the car is set up for long-haul cruising more than brutal speed and canyon-carving handling.
Still, the LC500 manages to deliver respectable numbers, thanks to its 5.0-liter V8, which puts down 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. Though the driver is using manual mode for much of the video, the 10-speed automatic transmission cracks off shifts quickly when left to its own devices.
Bottom line, it is a beauty on the road. Check out the video for the supremely satisfying experience of watching the Lexus sprint with great agility on one of the best proving grounds.
