Lexus Announces Global Sales Results For 2021
In 2021, Lexus achieved a 110% year-on-year growth in sales of electrified vehicles thanks to the robust sales of its hybrid nameplates.
With the ongoing pandemic, automobile sales in the U.S. took a hit in 2021. However, Lexus’ global sales increased by six percent last year compared to 2020. Toyota’s luxury sub-brand recently announced its 2021 global sales result, which is just shy of a record high. It’s impressive that Lexus achieved this feat even though the semiconductor shortage limited its inventories.
With 760012 cars sold, Lexus recorded 106% growth in its global sales compared to 2020 for January-December 2021. In North America alone, the Japanese automaker’s sales were up by 12 percent. The company sold 332,000 units in the U.S., which as a result, topped the regional charts. Lexus ES sedan and RX and NX crossovers were responsible for the company’s strong sales.
Lexus International President / Chief Branding Officer Koji Sato shared his thoughts on the company’s growth in 2021. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of our Lexus customers around the world. Despite the continuing impact of the spread of the COVID-19 and the tight parts supply chain, we were able to recover sales to a record level in 2021, selling approximately 760,000 units,” said Sato.
Lexus plans to offer a BEV in every segment by the year 2030. Furthermore, the automaker also wants to become an electric-only brand by 2035.
In Q4 2021, there was a considerable increase in the sales of electric vehicles. In its press release, Lexus credits hybrid models of its ES, RX, and UX nameplates for the strong sales of electrified Lexus models. Sato has disclosed that Lexus will substantially develop its EV portfolio in 2022, and the company’s first-ever BEV RZ will kick things off.
In 2022, we will continue to refine Lexus’ unique design and driving taste that appeals to the sensibilities of our customers, based on our thoughts to “be the brand that people who know the real thing choose at the end of the day.” We will also accelerate the development of electric vehicles starting with the BEV exclusive model “RZ” in spring, we will release a series of new models that will accompany the lifestyles of a variety of customers. Please look forward to the future of Lexus.
