Lexus Certified Pre-Owned Car Program Earns 2nd Place

Just before he died running a marathon, my old grandpappy gave me the following advice: “Second place is for losers,” he said.

While I’ve taken that sage advice to heart, I really don’t think it applies here. In this case, second place is pretty darn good, especially considering all the car companies that Lexus beat in AutoTrader‘s recent ranking of certified pre-owned car programs.

Since AutoTrader did all the legwork on this one, I’ll let them explain:

“Autotrader has studied and ranked the certified pre-owned car programs in the US and calls Porsche the number one program and Lexus the number two program overall. In addition, Toyota’s CPO program has received honorable mention by Autotrader.”

Second place to Porche, yeah, I guess we’ll take that. For this year, at least.

What did AutoTrader like about the Lexus CPO program? For starters, they offer coverage for 3-years or 100,000 miles, for cars up to six-years-old. And Lexus is competitive with Porsche in offering a standard warranty covering cars for 4-years and 50,000 miles.

What AutoTrader didn’t like is the fact that you can’t transfer the CPO warranty to the next owner of the car. And because of that, we’re number two.

Oh well, it’s already been a good month for studies, because a different study also shows promising news for Lexus. Pied Piper (the market researchers, not the compression company from the HBO show, Silicon Valley) found that Lexus leads the pack as far as responding to Internet automobile purchasing inquiries.

Pied Piper had their team of mystery shoppers troll dealerships as potential purchasers, when in all actuality they were just evaluating the dealer’s online helpfulness. Though Lexus still earned a couple of F’s in the study (not the good kind of Lexus F’s), they still scored high enough to beat all the rest.

Now if we can just get that CPO ranking to go up by one.
