Lexus Custom Paint Job Highlights Best of Atlanta
Reimagined LC 500 is on display at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre through November.
What do killer tomatoes, Lexus, and Atlanta artist R. Land have in common? A wondrous, four-wheeled piece of art.
During this summer’s 10th Annual Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival, Land turned a pristine white Lexus LC 500 into a yellow billboard highlighting the best of Atlanta. The coupe is now on display through November in the famed arcade pathway of the Fox Theatre in Atlanta. Some of the iconic local landmarks featured on the custom-painted street car include the JCT Kitchen & Bar, the BB&T Atlanta open tennis championships, and Fox Theatre’s legendary marquee.
An art critic once described Land’s style as “the approach of Keith Haring, the enthusiasm of Disney, and the vision of Finster.” Land’s iconic “Pray for ATL” artwork is featured in the Atlanta History Center and the Georgia State Capitol. The artist’s pieces have also appeared in countless films and on TV, including in The Change Up, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and The Walking Dead.
“From the start, I understood the message and felt passionate about participating in the project,” Land said in Broadway World of painting the Lexus. Watch R. Land transform the Lexus LC 500 in a short video.
Launched in 1989, Lexus offers seven F SPORT models, two F performance models, and six models incorporating Lexus Hybrid Drive. On an all-new platform, the company’s LC 500 luxury coupe offers 471 horsepower and a class-leading 10-speed automatic transmission.
With a 4,665 seat theatre, the much lauded Fox Theatre hosts more than 150 performances a year. Events range from Broadway shows and rock concerts to stand-up comedians and feature films. The venue attracts half a million visitors each year.
