Lexus Definitely Premiering Something at NAIAS, But What?

Lexus-Detroit-2

We had a pretty good idea that Lexus would be going big at next week’s 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Now we know for sure. But we still don’t know how exactly.

Here’s all the info we got from yesterday’s teaser image, which was posted on the Lexus website: on January 11, at 12:45 pm Eastern, an “unprecedented Lexus world premiere” will be unveiled in Detroit, which you’ll be able to livestream. All of which was posted atop the picture above of some tastefully decimated tires.

I was already of the mind that the big debut would be the Lexus LC 500 coupe, slightly larger than the RC, and based upon the LF-LC concept. A car that could theoretically lay down such rubber.

However, Carscoops has a new theory, based upon the internal teaser image’s digital code name:

We found that the image was named “fcv-world-2000×1100-lex”, while the page’s metadata uses the words “lexus concept car, lexus concept cars, lexus concept vehicles”, which could mean something –i.e. that Lexus is readying a new Fuel Cell Vehicle for Detroit, or perhaps nothing.

If you’ll recall, Lexus showed off their LF-FC concept in Tokyo last year, which by our accounts offered a first look at the next gen, fuel-cell LS. So chew on that.

I guess we won’t really know until the show, even though we kind of thought we already knew. But still, doesn’t it make you all the more excited for January 11?
