Lexus Elevates Marketing Game With New Cycling Video
With all the crazy stuff Lexus produces that has nothing to do with automobiles, you might think the company just throws marketing dollars around willy-nilly. But whether it’s the hoverboard, or L/Studio, or a Lexus design installation, it’s all calculated.
The latest well-spent dollar dump comes in the form of a Lexus produced cycling video. Yes, a cycling video, because #LexusCycling is actually a thing. See, you learn something new everyday.
The video below is called Elevate: A 360° Cycling Film, and it features retired pro cyclist Christian Vande Velde taking a ride through some very pretty terrain. Since Lexus is all about technology, the video takes you along for the ride by allowing you a 360-degree view, which you control.
Because they’re marketing geniuses, Lexus ties this bike trip to the real reason the company exists: to sell cars. They do this by noting in the description that they are presenting this video “because Lexus supports those who spend their lives on the road.” Very clever, Lexus. Well played.
What’s also clever is the fact that targeting bikers is a pretty safe bet. The folks who are into cycling are usually doing alright for themselves. According to Media Post, “Pro cycling fans have medium income of $80,000, average of 38 years of age, and 90% have gone to college. About half own a truck or SUV.”
So why shouldn’t they own an LX?
