A Lexus Fan’s Guide to What Won’t Suck at Detroit
Infiniti is teasing a new concept that is supposed to be a flagship luxury sedan. Considering the Q70 is barely a decent counterpoint to the GS, it will be fun to see how Nissan’s luxury division will try to fight against the legendary might and luxury of the LS. At least we know they will focus on making it sportier to drive.
The biggest threat to Lexus at this show is certainly going to be Mercedes-Benz. Rumor has it that Merc is bringing a high-power hybrid CLS that will wear an AMG badge. A turbocharged six, mated to a hybrid battery pack will leverage AMG F1 technology in a sexy new four-door. Expect this new engine to permeate the Mercedes family, and that means a proper hybrid competitor in the luxury market. A new G-Class is also supposed to debut, and while it’s not a direct competitor to anything Lexus makes, it could steal a few sales.

So, there we have it. BMW is bringing two new ugly and pointless cars, Infiniti will unveil a new car that is less luxurious than an LS, Acura could finally make a decent SUV again, and Mercedes is diving deep into the hybrid game. Other Detroit news includes a new Jeep, a pile of trucks from America’s Big Three, some random things from Honda, Hyundai and VW, and Chevy might have a new supercar Corvette thing.
Again, nobody cares, and we saved you the trouble of reading an extra 500 words about all that crap. You’re welcome. If there are any actual surprises at Detroit in the luxury department, we’ll be sure to let you know.
