Lexus Files “RZ 300e” Trademark (Will It Be the Next Lexus EV?)
The Lexus RZ 300e could be the next EV in the company’s arsenal for battle in the premium electric car market.
Following the launch of the new RZ 450e, Lexus is reportedly working on a new vehicle called the RZ 300e. According to Lexus Enthusiast, Lexus recently filed a trademark for the RZ 300e in Canada, Europe, and the U.S. Lexus has not provided any info on the new model. However, it’s clear the company is continuing the expansion of its electric vehicle lineup.
In the most likely scenario, the RZ 300e designates a less powerful or shorter range variant of the RZ 450e. The RZ 450e shares its platform with Toyota’s bZ4x, and produces 308-horsepower from a dual-motor AWD setup. The Toyota bZ4x uses a single electric motor producing 214 horsepower. Therefore it’s possible the RZ 300e will share the bZ4x’s configuration and power ratings. If accurate, the RZ 300e will have a range of around 250 miles. Performance would also be comparable to the bZ4x. That means 0-to-60 times of around 6.3 seconds with a top speed of 104 mph.
The Lexus RZ 450e goes on sale later this year. Depending on the timing for the official launch, the company may wait to officially announce the RZ 300e. The new model could debut as early as 2023 as a 2024 model. Regardless of when it debuts, the presence of the RZ 300e shows Lexus is serious about positioning its electric vehicles at the front of a rapidly expanding segment. Competitors include electric vehicles from Audi, BMW, Cadillac, and Mercedes-Benz. These new vehicles from established brands will compete with new manufacturers like Tesla and Rivian and their existing vehicles in the premium electric car market.
