Lexus Gives Artist an RC F as a Blank Canvas
As we’ve learned time and time again, Lexus design is a very broad category, and it isn’t relegated to the show room floor. Our latest example comes straight from New York Fashion Week, where Lexus has given visual artist, Shantell Martin, an RC F to use as her blank canvas.
So what did Martin do with the pristine, white RC F? As you can see in Complex‘s video below, she took a thick, black Sharpie and doodled all over the once beautiful Lexus. Or maybe she just gave the Sharpie to a bunch of kindergartners and let them cut loose.
Look, I love art, and I’m all for Lexus giving artists carte blanche to go buck wild in the name of design, but it doesn’t even look like Martin tried here. She just drew a bunch of eyes and noses, squiggled some wacky lines, added a few “inspiring messages,” and called it art. Am I missing something here?
Lexus is no stranger to the fashion game, as we’ve seen in prior Design Disrupted collaborations with designers Gareth Pugh and Prabal Gurung, and fashion writer Susie Bubble. So obviously the marketing brass still sees a benefit from these collaborations, but can we please at least get the artist a couple of different colored Sharpies to work with?
