Is Lexus Going to Make a More Affordable Car? Should it?
A Lexus is many things: quiet, luxurious, impeccably well built — just to name a few. But a Lexus is never cheap, right?
Well, that may be changing soon, after the introduction of the LF-SA concept car at the Geneva auto show.
Despite the fact that Lexus has stated it doesn’t need an entry-level model, the new LF-SA would seem to put the company directly into such a position. With its size and seating arrangement, the company would need to go to drastic measures to get the price above the $30K mark.
With cars on the market like the Audi A1, this segment isn’t devoid of luxury automakers, but it seems odd to see Lexus so adamantly deny an entry-level car, then turn around and produce this concept. The current word from Lexus is that this machine is nothing more than a design study. As such, it was only created to test certain ideas relating to visual presence, technology, and build-feasibility.
But what if Lexus actually built it? What would the company need to do to make it worth a luxury price tag? Would an advanced plug-in hybrid drivetrain or incredibly futuristic interior technology be enough to sway you? AutoNews takes a stab at some of these ideas in a piece posted recently, but what do you say?
As esteemed and amazing members of Club Lexus, do you think Lexus should make a cheaper car, or do you think that the LF-SA can be built in such a way that you would be willing to pay a premium price for it? Maybe Lexus should just scrap the whole thing and move on. Sound off, and let your voices be heard.
