Carbon-neutral future, Lexus

Lexus continues to spearhead the global movement towards fleet electrification with impressive progress and innovation.

Long before becoming a major focus of the automotive industry, Lexus has pioneered the movement toward electrification and carbon neutrality. In 2005, Lexus launched the 400h and started its journey towards carbon neutrality. Today, Lexus can proudly claim a 19 million ton cumulative reduction in CO2 emissions. To boot, Lexus announced that it has now seen over two million electrified vehicles leave salesroom floors.

The Path to Carbon Neutrality

The Lexus mission of “balancing excellent driving performance with environmental sensitivity” is certainly going according to plan. Year after year, Lexus vehicles are lauded for their unparalleled customer satisfaction despite a fundamental shift toward an electric fleet.

Lexus has ridden its philosophy of “right time, right product, right place,” to an impressive fleet of nine electrified models. Perhaps even more impressively, Lexus now boasts that 33% of global sales were EVs in 2020. While some manufacturers have busied themselves talking of electrification, Lexus has spent their time leading the charge.

Lexus Cracks 2 Million Electrified Vehicle Sales

By 2025, Lexus intends to manufacture 20 models total, including at least 10 BEVs, PHEVs, and HEVs. Ultimately, Lexus hopes to offer electrified options across its entire lineup. With such an achievement, reaching its goal of full carbon-neutral status by 2050 should be rather easy.

Aside from environmental responsibility, a core aim of Lexus is to further improve the drivability and enjoyment of its lineup. According to Lexus, future models with house DIRECT4 and steer-by-wire systems.

Future Innovation

DIRECT4

DIRECT4 is a “four-wheel-drive torque distribution technology,” But it’s not your average 4wd system. DIRECT4  “combines highly precise drive force control with responsive steer-by-wire systems that greatly enhance vehicle reflexes, resulting in a high level of dynamic performance,”

Steer-by-wire Lexus

Other future plans include the introduction of PHEV vehicles in 2021, an all-electric BEV model in 2022.

Whatever the electric vehicle market future holds, you can be sure Lexus will be there to spearhead the initiative. With Lexus, innovation and excitement go hand-in-hand, and a carbon-neutral future is well within reach.
