Lexus IS F Makes Top Speed Run to Intoxicating Soundtrack

AutoTopNL proves that Lexus IS F is still a great sports sedan and can give its modern contemporaries a run for their money.

The late 2000s were not the most glorious years of automotive design. At the time, Japanese nameplates like Subaru B9 Tribeca and early models of Honda Element sported designs that could repel even the most loyal customers of the brands. Enter Lexus IS F, a proverbial diamond in the rough with a design that has aged graciously over the years. Now, a recent AutoTopNL video also proves that the luxury sedan can still deliver impressive performance that complements its timeless design and can keep up with modern contemporaries.

For those who are not familiar with AutoTopNL’s work, the YouTube channel describes itself as an “online Car filming and testing company” that offers a wide range of playlists with exciting exhaust ballads. The video offers a behind the wheel look at what it feels like to try and achieve the top speed of a Lexus IS F. The car used by the AutoTopNL team managed to achieve a quarter-mile time of 13.06 seconds and hit a top speed of 166.5 MPH (268 km/h), which is quite close to the company’s official claim of 170 MPH.

The car featured in the video is powered by Toyota’s naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 motor, which produced 416 HP of maximum power and 371 lb-ft of peak torque in its factory tune. The motor in AutoTopNL’s Lexus IS F comes mated to an aftermarket exhaust system, and according to the YouTube channel, the modified powertrain now churns out 423 HP and around 372 lb-ft of torque.

The Lexus IS F also came equipped with an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission, and in the video, we can see the driver operating the car in manual mode using the paddle shifters to get the best results all the while delivering an awesome soundtrack. On its first run, the car accelerated to 62 MPH (100 km/h) from a complete standstill in just 5.05 seconds, which is impressive considering AutoTopNL’s IS F also has more than 86K miles (138622 kilometers) on its odometer. To ensure unbiased results, the AutoTopNL team calculated all the times using a Dragy GPS-based performance meter.
