Lexus LC 500h Isn’t Just Cutting Edge, It’s Revolutionary
The Multi Stage Hybrid System found in the upcoming 2018 Lexus LC 500h is a revolutionary piece of technology.
But don’t take my word for it. Take Lexus senior technical trainer Stefan Ramaekers’s words in the video below: “It’ll be a revolution in the way hybrids are received, and in the way we experience a hybrid drive.”
Basically, the Multi Stage Hybrid System found in the futuristic, high-performance hybrid utilizes all the components of a normal hybrid powertrain — 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine, electric motor, lithium-ion battery– but adds to that a four-speed automatic gearbox mounted at the rear of the hybrid transmission.
According to the video’s description:
The electric motor generates better acceleration feel than a conventional engine, and the introduction of physical gears allows for engine revs to be more closely matched to the driver’s use of the accelerator. The result is a much more direct connection between accelerator pedal inputs and vehicle acceleration, with nought to 62mph brought well into the sub-five-second range.
In other words, it’ll be a revolutionary ride, which even allows the driver to slip the car into “M” transmission mode and make gear changes quickly and responsively — the first Lexus hybrid to offer such a feature.
