Lexus LC Awarded ‘Production Car Design of the Year’
Prestigious, Peer-Reviewed Award Adds to Growing Trophy Case in Geneva
Fresh off winning the EyesOn Design award for its stunning interior design, the Lexus LC has another prize to add to the trophy case. The groundbreaking coupe was named “Production Car Design of the Year,” a prestigious peer-reviewed award. The award, judged by a panel of some of the world’s top car designers, is handed out each year at the Geneva Motor Show.
The panel of judges particularly enjoyed the production LC’s similarity to the beautiful LC concept, a practice that you don’t often see these days. Guy Bird, editor of Car Design Review 4, says, “It was great to see the fantastic LF-LC concept faithfully translated into the beautiful LC production car with so little compromise. This is a rare thing in the automotive industry and should be celebrated.”
Bird went on to praise the “curvaceous couple” for its “daring surfacing, unforgettable face and unique character.”
LC Chief Designer Tadao Mori elaborated on the journey the car took from concept to showroom floor.
“The 2012 LF-LC concept model was the starting point, not our final goal,” Tori says. “This means we didn’t just duplicate LF-LC’s surfaces and lines onto the production platform. Even though we decided to maintain LF-LC’s design language and theme, we added more emotion.”
The LC beat out 12 other cars selected by Car Design News‘ editorial staff. A 20-person judging panel, consisting of top car designers and major automotive industry players then narrows the selections down to three before picking a winner.
Considering how great the new Lexus LC looks, we doubt it was a difficult choice this year.
