Lexus LF-1 Limitless-like SUV Reportedly in the Works
‘Bold and elegant’ 2022 Lexus LQ will offer sportier, faster alternative to brand’s current SUV lineup and start at around $80K, says Car & Driver.
It’s been a couple of years since Lexus stole the thunder at the New York Auto Show with the introduction of its LF-1 Limitless concept (pictured below). The edgy flagship crossover looked like a sportier, sexier alternative to the boxy LX.
Now, according to a new report by Car and Driver, the legendary brand famous for its exquisite attention to detail is expected to unveil an LF-1 Limitless-like SUV called the Lexus LQ sometime in 2021.
Before dropping its details about the 2022 Lexus LQ, Car & Driver makes it clear where those details derive. It is based on “knowledge from leaked product-development plans, spy photos, and loose-lipped insiders mixed in with information that has already been officially released,” says Car and Driver.
‘An F performance model might even pack a twin-turbo V-8 good for 600-plus horsepower.’
This news sounds quite promising for Lexus enthusiasts who have been waiting what seems like forever for Toyota’s luxury line to offer drivers something new and different in the SUV segment. The RX is a nice crossover, and the LX and GX have long been nice options to appease those looking for a high-performance SUVs, but a long-desired Lexus sport utility vehicle with an edgier style and ferocious power has been missing, until now. Car and Driver notes that the new LQ will lift styling, structural elements, and powertrain specifics from the LS and LC lines and offer over 600 hp.
“While we can only speculate about the specifics, we think its styling will be both bold and elegant, and we expect it will ride on a rear-drive platform,” says Car and Driver. “Along with a traditional gasoline powertrain and the obligatory all-wheel-drive option, the upcoming crossover will probably be available with hybrid technology, too.” Even better, the site adds: “An F performance model might even pack a twin-turbo V-8 good for 600-plus horsepower.”

Sounds great to us, especially if the suggested MSRP is correct, which reportedly will hover around the $80,000 mark, similar to the cost of an LS, with top-of-the-line models going for up to $100,000.
