Lexus Luring Ladies With the Racetrack Difference
How many car-guy auto journalists would start their track day article by regaling a story about how badly they drove that day?
I’m guessing not many, so it’s rather refreshing to read Jaclyn Trop’s Forbes article, which starts with her getting a very fast lesson in under-steer (which she explains quite well), but is actually all about how Lexus is going out of its way to cater to women customers, not just at the dealership, but also at the racetrack.
Trop recently joined a group of 19 other women — mostly first time track goers — at the Chuckwalla Valley Raceway outside of Palm Springs. The goal: to rip around the track in Lexus GS F sedans and RC F coupes. Although technically, the day would be more for education — cornering, setting a line, timely braking — then for just pure speed.
The group was gathered at the location by Christine Overstreet, founder of a professional automotive network for women called Heels and Wheels. Overstreet says she started the events some five years ago because, “I just kept going to events, and there were just so many dudes. Just guys, with so many opinions. I love that everyone here can go on the track and not feel that someone’s chasing them.”
This is Overstreet’s first time scheduling the track day strictly with one marque. But Lexus made perfect sense, considering the Lexus Difference, the manufacturer’s far-reaching plan to do a better job of catering to potential female buyers.
A track day in an RC F? Without a bunch of yahoo “dudes” around? Yeah, who wouldn’t be lured by that?
