Lexus LX 450: The Ultimate Zombie Apocalypse Escape Vehicle
Whether you’re on an expedition, filming a documentary, or hunting zombies, this Lexus ‘ute can do it all.
Undoubtedly, you already know that the Lexus LX 450 was basically just a rebadged version of one of the greatest off-road SUVs in history – Toyota’s J80 Land Cruiser. The Lexus ‘ute featured only minor differences like a more luxurious interior, softer suspension settings, a couple of exterior changes, and additional sound absorbing material. And that was pretty much it.
Though the Lexus LX 450 proved to be a sales success, it eventually morphed into its own unique vehicle. Which means that today’s LX isn’t quite the off-roader its predecessor was. And while modified Land Cruisers are everywhere on our nation’s trails, you rarely see jacked up LXs climbing rocks. And we think that’s a shame.
Just take one look at this highly modified 1997 LX 450 and you’ll see what we mean. The Lexus was built by 4×4 North America, Inc. with one purpose in mind. And that was to construct a vehicle capable of serving as a long-distance expedition rig. The current owner also had them add features to make it suitable for both search and rescue and documentary filmmaking.
The result is a parts list that reads like the script for some National Geographic movie. From the OEM Toyota supercharger to triple lockers and safari snorkel. Essentially a self-contained powerhouse, the Lexus contains a dual battery setup, fridge/freezer, and even a built in air compressor. And in case you get lost while on safari, it even has a cell phone amplifier and GPS locator.
But the best part about this wild LX is that the current owner has put his high dollar build up for sale on eBay. And amazingly enough, he claims that it’s only been off-road once. So if you’re looking for a Lexus you can flog on your local trails, or even escape the clutches of the undead in, look no further.
