Lexus NX 200t Named Middle East Compact Premium SUV of the Year

Chalk up one more award for the unstoppable Lexus marque, because the NX 200t was just named the Best Compact Premium SUV at the 2015 Middle East Car of the Year Awards (MECOTY).

It’s always nice to win awards, but to be named the hottest car in the hottest segment, well, that’s really significant. Especially considering the MECOTY awards have been established as one of the most respected honors doled out on the regional level.

To earn the award, the NX had to impress a jury of 14 independent journalists from some of the top outlets in the Middle East. The jury then looked at 10 distinct attributes by which to rate each tested car. According to the press release, those categories include “design & quality (exterior & interior), handling and drivability, safety & durability, performance & capability, technological innovation, emotional appeal & driver satisfaction, value for money (new purchase & resale), environmental friendliness, regional appeal, comfort & practicality.”

So it appears that Lexus has truly hit the mark with their first foray into the turbocharged gasoline engine, and their first effort at a compact crossover too. But we don’t really need awards to tell us that, do we? All we need to do is look at the global sales results.

Of course, awards are always welcome. And in this case, well deserved.
