GX & LX: Lexus Celebrates Past, Present, & Future of Overlanding (SEMA 2023)
Lexus shows off the GX and LX models at SEMA 2023 with the latest offerings in the Lexus Associated Accessory Product program.
Lexus shows off its rugged side at SEMA 2023 with the help of six vehicles outfitted in the latest from the Lexus Associated Accessory Product (AAP) program. Three of the vehicles will be unique owner builds. The owner builds will include a 2008 and 2009 GX 470 as well as 2010 GX 460. Lexus will also bring three of their own builds including a 2022 GX 460, a 2022 LX 600, and a 2024 GX 550 Overtrail+. Each vehicle will be fully equipped from the AAP catalog.
Toyota and Lexus first announced the AAP program at the SEMA 2022 show. The program brings third-party accessories into the vehicle purchase process. This helps to streamline the ordering and installation process. All products can be ordered and installed through Toyota and Lexus dealerships. The vehicles being brought to SEMA 2023 shows you what is possible through this program.
2022 Lexus GX 460 Premium AAP Build
The current generation GX entering its final model year going out with record sales (I guess folks are going to miss that V8). This Matte Yellow Saffron-wrapped GX is equipped with 34-inch Toyo Open Country A/T tires and 18-inch wheels. CBI Offroad rock sliders and a full skid plate. And to help make your off-grid overlanding adventure more enjoyable is a Kammok Outpost Overland Hammock Stand mounted on a Prinsu Roof Rack carrying a 10-foot long Kammok Roo Double Hammock.
Keeping your belly happy is a 63-quart ARB Elements Weatherproof Fridge Freezer with an ARB Fridge Slide and Goose Gear Rear Plate System to secure the fridge. To help make sure you can get into and out of any situation is an ARB 12V portable air compressor, Weekender Recovery Kit and TRED Pro recovery boards.
2022 Lexus LX 600 Premium AAP Build
Do you want a bit more luxury? How about this LX 600 build that is equipped with the available appearance package, including a matte gray grille, black chrome window trim, black door handles and outside mirrors, black chrome bumper trim, dark gray roof rails and 18-inch matte gray alloy wheels running the same tires as the GX 550. (Making us wish Lexus would come out with an Overtrail or similarly themed off-roader trim for the LX.) When you need protection from the elements you can duck under the Kammok Crosswing Car Awning.
When preparing meals you will appreciate the Yakima EXO OpenRange Deluxe camp kitchen bundle. To help secure and transport the kitchen, a Yakima EXO SwingBase is installed on the hitch. And literally topping it all off is the Yakima SupDawg rooftop stand-up paddleboard and surfboard mount that adorns a Prinsu Roof Rack.
2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrail+ AAP Build
Boxy. Beautiful. Lexus has a huge hit on their hands with the GX (and the new Land Cruisers). And Lexus wants to show you how you can make the GX 550 your own. The Overtrail+ features plenty of standard off-road features. You get 33-inch Toyo Open Country A/T tires on 18-inch wheels. Black accented overfenders. A standard aluminum skid plate and standard all-weather floor liners. But this build goes further with style and functionality. You get rock rails and genuine Lexus black badging across the exterior (the badges are coming soon!). And a Genuine Lexus on-board tire compressor.
Storage is improved thanks to a Prinsu Roof Rack, Pelican BX90R Cargo Case, BX55S Cargo Case and Prinsu Rear Window Accessory Panels located on both rear windows. A Prinsu ladder helps provide easy roof access. And if the going gets really tough, you will be happy to find the rotoPax two-gallon containers, a DMOS Delta Shovel, and ARB TRED Pro recovery boards.
2010 GX 460 by Brian McGee
“I was searching for a vehicle that could handle my outdoor adventures while turning heads in the process — the Lexus GX 460 was the perfect choice”
Brian McGee started his GX love affair with a 2007 GX 470 before moving to this 2010 GX 460. Now running on 37-inch tires with a winch integrated into the metal front bumper and a rooftop tent, McGee uses this rig to enjoy challenging terrain and to chase his astrophotography passions.
Despite being a part of the 35,000-member Lexus GX Off-Road community, McGee notes that the GX remains a bit of a sleeper to non-enthusiasts, given the brand’s luxury pedigree. But the GX is actually much more capable than many realize. Plus, there’s nothing wrong with being comfortable in leather seats while enjoying the great outdoors. McGee hopes his build will inspire others to use their Lexus SUVs as the engineers intended.
