This is what every Lexus fan has been waiting for since the RC F was announced: the car is finally getting in the hands of journalists and the comparison tests are rolling in. That means that the latest King of Bavaria, the BMW M4, finally has to go toe to toe with the angry V8 hiding under the nose of the swoopy new Lexus.

Our friends Down Under at CarAdvice took these two RWD coupes for a long flog down some wild roads. They covered the gamut, from smooth and technical sweepers, to a rough, ragged, upward-climbing road that created a menacing hill-climb course.

If you want a cold-cut answer as to which of these two coupes is best, you will be sorely disappointed. CarAdvice goes back and forth between the two cars. They like the sound and fury of the V8 in the RC F over the M4, but the M4 is faster. They like the price and higher level of the standard equipment in the RC F, but the M4’s iDrive system is easier to use. The entire piece is full of a back and forth conversation about how each car is better than the other, and simultaneously worse than the other.

In the end, the Lexus does actually lose out to the BMW, but only by the slimmest of margins. The final score between the two cars is 8 for the RC F and 8.5 for the M4. If you want all the details, check out the full piece over at CarAdvice.
