Lexus RC F Drift Car Truly a Sight (and Sound) to Behold
Packing equal parts power and style, the world’s first Lexus RC F pro drift car is truly the total package.
If you haven’t noticed, drifting has slowly become a legitimate form of motorsport. And one of the big names in this newfangled sensation is Red Bull. Previously, this well-known racing team had remained devoted to Toyota’s legendary 2JZ-GTE platform, but soon found themselves looking for a modern upgrade. And they, along with driver Ahmad Daham, were unsurprisingly rumored to be enamored with the new Supra.
Team Red Bull and Daham pulled off a major surprise, however, and decided to go with the Lexus RC F as its new tire-killing racer of choice. Even better, Club Lexus member/sponsor/vendor Figs Engineering played a big role in building this amazing machine. Figs was more than happy to give our members some insight into the build right here in the forums as well.
“It was a very extensive development on a very tight schedule,” Figs admitted. “I pretty much had to lock myself up for several weeks in design. And then execute on making all of the parts. I am going to put together all of the footage and pics and make a video hopefully when the shop slows down a bit. This year has been hard to keep up with and it”s getting close to half over already.”
They obviously built the drift machine in record time. But you certainly can’t tell by how incredible this Lexus RC F turned out. Figs was also happy to provide an insanely detailed breakdown of the build, which they collabed with Tensai Tuning in Dubai on, here. It was truly a massive group effort, one that took a mere 70 days to complete from start to finish.
Perhaps most interestingly, the RC F uses a 3UR-FE engine from the LX570. That mill has been treated to a laundry list of mods. Things like ported heads, forged internals, and IS F intake and exhaust valves. Up top, a Harrop 3UR supercharger provides plenty of boost, while a GM LS3 throttle body feeds it air. Shifts are handled by a sequential gearbox with a twin-plate clutch. All together, this upgraded powerplant delivers a healthy 844 wheel horsepower and 858 lb-ft of torque.
Drifting isn’t all about power, of course. It’s also about style. So this Lexus was also fitted with a full Rocket Bunny widebody kit, which gives it plenty of visual appeal. So be sure and check out this awesome thread for more great pics of the car, as well as several more videos of it in action!
