Lexus RC F GT3 Mechanic Gives Us a Peek Behind the Scenes
We’re huge fans of the Lexus RC F GT3 and the brand’s motorsports efforts. So this discovery is what we call pure gold.
As you likely already know, we’re huge fans of the Lexus RC F GT3 and its efforts to return the automaker to motorsports glory. We spent far too much time soaking in races that take place all around the globe in the wee hours of (our) morning. So when we came across Reddit user Kerwin666, who appears to be a Lexus Racing pit crew member/mechanic, we were obviously intrigued by what he had to share.
Which, so far, has been a couple of cool peeks behind the curtain at the pair of Lexus RC F GT3 racers he helps maintain. But he’s also happy to answer questions and share some interesting insights into what makes them tick, too.
“The ECU is a complete swap out from the stock equipment,” he noted in one thread. “As for tuning, I don’t do anything on the computer end of it. Just turn wrenches and fix the broken bits for the most part!”
“The engines are purpose built from TRD, so we don’t open the engines at all. Being a developmental program they like to do quite a lot of analysis on the internals. So they get sent back quite often. Engine reliability has been great though”
“It’s a Cosworth unit. TRD sends a couple guys to every race to monitor the engine during sessions and to adjust it (if necessary) when it’s off track. Most of it is just data acquisition though.”
Talk about a dream job. Sadly, we haven’t yet realized our dream of becoming Lexus motorsports mechanics. But at least we can live vicariously through one guy’s Reddit posts!
