Lexus Records Best-Ever Sales Result Through Q3 2024
Lexus sold more vehicles through the first nine months of the year than at any point in its 35-year history, and electrified models are fueling that growth.
Lexus has been on a bit of a spree lately, surging throughout the course of 2023 in what has been a sharp rise for the luxury brand. This jump coincides with a rather comprehensive model lineup revamp that includes the debut of several refreshed and redesigned models, which have helped fuel Lexus’ sales success. However, things just keep getting better for Lexus in that regard, as was clearly on display in the first three quarters of the year. In fact, now that Q3 2024 figures are in, they reveal that Lexus posted the best result through the first nine months of the year in its 35-year history.
In September, Lexus sold 22,443 vehicles, which was down 14.5 percent compared to September 2023. That didn’t dampen its third quarter results too much, however, as the luxury brand managed to move 80,989 units for an 8.1 percent increase, year-over-year. Perhaps more importantly, the 248,200 vehicles, Lexus has sold through September in 2024 is 10.7 percent more than the same time period in 2023, and the most the luxury entity has ever sold over that same timeframe.
That isn’t the only notable mark Lexus reached through the first three quarters of the year, either. In fact, this also marks the best-ever year-to-date sales through three quarters for the brand’s electrified vehicles, crossovers/SUVs, the ES Hybrid, NX, RX hybrid/PHEV, RZ, and TX. When combined with Toyota, the combined entity has sold a whopping 710,000 electrified vehicles so far this year – more than 41 percent of overall sales – and in September, that same mix great to 48 percent, which is truly notable.
Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) didn’t fare quite as well on its own, however, as it sold 542,872 vehicles in the U.S. in Q3 – down 8 percent – though year-to-date U.S. sales totaled 1,729,519 vehicles, up 6.2 percent. The Toyota division posted a 10.4 percent increase by moving 461,883 vehicles in Q3 – a 10.4 percent drop – but its 1,481,319 units sold year-to-date is still a 5.5 percent increase compared to 2023, however.
“In September, nearly 50 percent of our total sales volume was an electrified model, an achievement made possible by our outstanding team and dealers,” said Jack Hollis, executive vice president, Sales, TMNA. “We believe that our portfolio approach to electrification is the best pathway to carbon neutrality while giving customers a variety of powertrain options that fits their lifestyle. With 30 electrified vehicles now at Toyota and Lexus dealerships, Lexus sales recording its best-ever year-to-date result in its 35-year history, the all-new all-hybrid Toyota Camry a hit with customers, and Toyota remaining the number one retail brand in the industry, we are preparing to close out 2024 on a high note while continuing to focus on our customers.”
