Lexus RX Driver Narrowly Escapes Hurricane Irma Disaster (Video)

Quick thinking and the inherent safety of a Lexus RX saved a Georgia woman from a huge falling tree.

Most of us have faced at least one near-miss in our time traversing public roads. Usually it happens as a result of a negligent driver, or perhaps even an angry flock of geese. But few close calls are as scary as the one this Lexus RX driver faced during the wrath of Hurricane Irma. According to WSB-TVApril Baxter was traveling along Highway 92 near Fayetteville, Georgia when a huge tree fell directly in front of her.

Thankfully, Baxter was paying attention to the scene ahead and managed to hit the brakes as the tree starts to fall. She wasn’t able to keep from hitting the tree, however, which came crashing down into the front of her Lexus RX. The entire incident was captured by Michael Hand, who was traveling behind her on his way to Fayetteville.

Thanks to her quick reaction and her Lexus’ inherent safety tech, Baxter escaped with only minor injuries. Obviously, things could have been much worse had she reacted a little slower or if her Lexus had skidded on the wet pavement.

“It started falling and I just closed my eyes and hit the brakes,” Baxter told WSB-TV. “I closed my eyes and the airbags popped. It was all so fast, very fast. I thought, ‘This is the end. I’m done.'”

‘It was all so fast, very fast. I thought, “This is the end. I’m done.”‘

The incident serves as an important reminder, however. It’s obviously a bad idea to go out in the middle of a hurricane. Even a weakened tropical storm, as in this case, can produce wind gusts strong enough to do major damage. To her credit, Baxter was trying to flee her mobile home for the safety of her sister-in-law’s house.

So remember folks – hurricanes are nothing to mess with. Even if you do drive one of the safer vehicles on the planet.
