Lexus RX Goes Full ‘Grand Theft Auto’ by Launching off Flat Bed Truck Ramp
This Lexus RX driver failed to follow the law, and as a result, found themselves barrel-rolling through the air in a wild-looking scene.
The Lexus RX has long been one of America’s favorite luxury crossovers, a vehicle that continues to dominate its popular segment with ease. A total redesign for the new model year figures to keep it ahead of the competition moving forward, thanks to fresh styling and the addition of many welcome modern tech features. However, one thing that Lexus RX probably wasn’t designed to do is pull off Evel Knievel-style stunts like launching off the ramp of a flat bed truck – but that didn’t stop the driver of this particular example from doing precisely that.
This particular incident actually happened last year, but Florida Highway Patrol just released this video footage in an attempt to remind drivers that the state has a “move over” law in place for emergency vehicles for a very good reason. As is the case with many other states, this law requires drivers to leave a full lane in between themselves and fire trucks, ambulances, police vehicles, tow trucks, sanitation, and utility vehicles if they happen upon them when they’re parked on the side of the road.
Even though it’s a law, this is also common sense – when there’s a wreck on the side of the road, a person that’s been pulled over, or just a crew out working, things can go horribly wrong if we fly by at a high rate of speed in close prolixity to those types of things. Slowing down, moving over, and keeping our eyes peeled can quite literally save lives, or it can lead to disastrous results, as is the case with this particular incident.
At the scene of an accident that occurred in the center grassy section of a highway, a flatbed wrecker had its ramp down, waiting to load up the incapacitated vehicles parked nearby. However, the driver of the Lexus RX didn’t move over or slow down, and apparently wasn’t paying attention to the large truck at all, which was partially sitting in the median. The left wheels of the crossover made contact with the ramp, launching it and sending it barrel-rolling through the air like something out of the video game series Grand Theft Auto.
Tow trucks/wreckers and @MyFDOT Road Rangers need you to slow down, MOVE OVER, and keep emergency/service personnel safe as they work.
Thank you, @WESH, for showing why following the Move Over law is imperative and how failing to do so can be deadly.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of this crazy-looking accident, but sadly, that hasn’t been the case with many other drivers who failed to follow the law. Thus, this stunning accident serves as an important reminder that taking the precious few seconds to slow down and move over when we see any kind of vehicle or person on the side of the road would certainly prevent things like this from happening.
