Lexus Sales Reach New Record Heights in First Half of 2024
Lexus sales enjoyed their best first half ever, while several individual models set new sales records as well in the first part of 2024.
Lexus has been on a bit of a roll lately, launching a number of new models after previously fielding one of the older lineups in the automotive space. Those new vehicle launches have thus far been well received, and Toyota’s investment in its luxury arm is paying off in more ways than one. As it turns out, Lexus sales actually hit new record heights in the first half of 2024, in fact, all while Toyota and Lexus continued to make headwinds in the red-hot hybrid market as well.
As a whole, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) sales in the U.S. closed out the half of the year at 1,186,647 units, which is a 14.3 percent increase versus the first half of 2023. TMNA also sold 454,197 electrified vehicles in H1, which is a 67.9 percent increase. Of that total, the Toyota brand accounted for 1,019,436 of those sales – an increase of 14.7 percent – while Lexus sold 167,211 vehicles, up 11.9 percent versus H1 2023 – its best first half sales result in its 35-year history. Lexus electrified vehicle sales also grew by 46.5 percent, and accounted for 36.5 percent of the brand’s total sales volume – also a new record.
On top of those milestones, several Lexus sales records were also set in regard to individual models. Lexus enjoyed its best first half ever in terms of total vehicle sales, electrified vehicle sales, and SUV sales, but also set new marks for the entire NX lineup, the RX hybrid, RX plug-in hybrid, RZ, and total TX lineup, to boot.
In terms of model sales, the UX declined by 22 percent to 5,372 units sold, while NX sales grew by 0.4 percent to 34,639 units, the RZ by 398 percent to 5,639 units (likely spurred by some excellent lease deals), the RX declined 5.5 percent to 54,955 units sold, the TX hit 21,322 sales (it’s too new to compare to last year), the GX dropped 32.3 percent to 9,141 amid the redesigned model’s rollout, and the LX declined by 5.1 percent to 3,315 units.
“The first half of 2024 surpassed our high expectations thanks to our teams’ continued focus on customers with even more great products, including electrified vehicles,” said Jack Hollis, executive vice president, Sales, TMNA. “Lexus recorded its best-ever first half in its 35-year history, Toyota remains the number one retail brand in the industry, and our diverse portfolio of 29 electrified vehicle options between the Toyota and Lexus brands made up nearly 40 percent of our total sales volume through June.”
