LC 500’s Exhaust Note Shines in Flash and Furious Commercial Spot

Another day, another commercial spot with a sports car running through twisty mountain roads, a few lighting tricks for flashy tails, and some graphics to spice it up a little. When will they understand that that’s not  going to sell cars? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen commercials with Priuses running up mountain passes, so it’s really not that big a deal. The one positive about this LC 500 commercial is that we get to hear the exhaust note.

Lexus claims that this was a “groundbreaking film-making project that has shunned CGI trickery in favor of real-world projection mapping artistry on an unprecedented scale” and that it was aimed to “give viewers an immersive visual and aural introduction to the LC.” That’s nice and all, but you could have just put the car in a blank white room with a mic next to the exhaust, and I would have been thrilled. Oh wait, Ford already did that too.

Try harder, guys, c’mon.
