Bought in Indianapolis and living in Louisville since new, well-loved, one-owner 2005 LX 470 now ready to move to a new pasture.

How do you improve upon Toyota’s Land Cruiser if you’re Lexus? You turn up the luxury, of course. Thus, the birth of the LX line in 1995 for the 1996 model year. Since then, three generations of the flagship SUV have rolled through the high streets and trails, from the LX 450 of the mid-Nineties, to the LX 570 continuing into the early 2020s.

Even this 2005 LX 470 has likely seen a few trips to the finest shops all over the bluegrass Kentucky has to offer. Now, it’s looking for a new pasture to graze upon via Bring a Trailer.

From the time it was first purchased at Tom Wood Lexus in Indianapolis during the 2005 model year, the LX 470 has lived with its first and only owner down in Louisville. The Black Onyx body has a ding and a few scuffs and nicks, but otherwise looks as it did 16 years ago. There was a scratch, plus some rust on the tailgate above the license plate, but all those were repaired.

Aside from maintenance, the secret to the LX 470’s longevity is the 2UZ-FE. The 4.7-liter V8 had 235 horses and 320 lb-ft of torque when new, and likely has most of the that power at the ready today. All of goes through a five-speed auto and dual-range transfer case to the rear or all corners.

Inside, the LX 470’s driver seat’s worn-in like an old baseball glove, while the passenger seat is less so. The rear seats, though, look about as they did in 2005. And with a recently recharged AC, it’ll remain easy to stay cool in the humid summers along the Ohio River. The Mark Levinson stereo system even has a cassette player, in case you have any Bandcamp cassettes on hand.

Since 2005, the LX 470 travelled some 149,000 miles. Imagine all the stories this Lexus could tell. We hope it continues to collect more wherever it goes next. After all, it’s a special ride, one that’ll likely keep going until the end of time, if not beyond.
