LX 570 Modded to Battle Mojave Desert, Cruise Vegas Strip
Dubbed the “Lux Cruiser,” this LX 570 has all the ruggedness and comfort an overlander could ever want, ready for any adventure.
Though the LX 570 is based off the original luxury off-roader, the Toyota Land Cruiser, it’s rare to see the big Lexus off the beaten path. It’s not a soft-roader by any means, yet most owners are content with trips to the city park.
One individual, though, knew what he had. TFLoffroad met up with Marcus and his 2013 LX 570 a while ago. What they found was a ride ready to cruise out of the Vegas strip into the the Mojave outside.
This LX 570 Goes Where Most Don’t
“Today, I’m going to be giving you a tour of my 2013 Lexus LX 570,” said Marcus, “also known as the ‘Lux Cruiser.'”
Up front, the stock bumper was replaced with a steel unit from ARB. Though meant for the Land Cruiser 200 series, Boulder, Colorado’s Slee Off-Road knocked out the fitment handsomely. The bumper easily accommodates the stock parking sensors and front camera, retaining the LX’s magic parking abilities. A pair of flood/spotlights, waterproof wench, and recovery hooks complete the front clip.
“The tires are the ubiquitous BF Goodrich KO2s,” Marcus said. “Their size is 285/70 […] They are not an E load range tire; they’re a C. I, on purpose, went for something with a slightly softer sidewall because the LX, in my opinion, isn’t the most comfortable vehicle on the road […] I was running E load range tires in the past […] they were a little bit stiff for me.”
Tucked snuggly between each tire is a 17-inch wheel with faux beadlocks and a 25mm offset. Between them on each side is a Slee rock slider step to make getting in and out a breeze, while an air snorkel meant for the Land Cruiser 200 helps the LX 570 breathe when it goes swimming.
The backside of the LX 570’s got it all, too. A Slee swing-out rack holds a full-size spare, two cans of fuel, and a recovery hitch. The ladder offers access to the roof rack on top, including both a shovel and axe for camping and recovery needs. Finally, an on-board air compressor under the hood allows Marcus to air up or down his tires as needed.
“That is my LX 570,” said Marcus, “also known as the ‘Lux Cruiser.'”
