LX 700h

The 2025 LX 700h will be powered by a 3.4L twin-turbo hybrid V6 and offer a new Overtrail grade.

Lexus has just announced a flagship SUV that will be available for 2025, the LX 700h. As you can probably guess from the naming convention, the LX 700h sits above the LX 600 in the Lexus range and it uses a hybrid powertrain. It is the first LX to use hybrid power, but the list of firsts does not end there. The LX 700h will be offered in a new Overtrail grade. The first LX Overtrail ever. The LX grades of Premium, F SPORT Handling, Luxury, and Ultra Luxury carry over from 2024. That means the 2025 LX lineup will be the only one in the Lexus portfolio to offer both F SPORT and Overtrail grades. So, whether you want your SUV to perform on road or off, there is an LX for you.

Under the hood of the new LX 700h is a 3.4L twin-turbo hybrid V6 that packs a significantly stronger punch than the non-hybrid version in the LX 600. The LX 700h makes 457 horsepower and 583 foot-pounds of torque compared to 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque in the LX 600. And it even manages to use less fuel while making more power. The combined mpg rating for the LX 600 is 19 mpg and the LX 700h is estimated to be 20 mpg combined. Sounds like a win to us. Of course, Lexus is probably not going to give these away for free. Official 2025 LX pricing will be revealed later but conservatively we would expect the 700h to command a 15 percent premium over the 600 models.

LX 700h Overtrail

Overtrail

The rugged body-on-frame LX 600 is already capable off-road, but the 700h Overtrail grade is going to take the LX to places it has never been before. There are front and rear locking differentials, a 2,400W AC inverter, a front skid plate, 33-inch All-Terrain tires and 18-inch wheels. To help let everyone know that you sprung for the Overtrail are unique exterior features such as a matte gray grille, black door handles, dark gray roof rails, dark chrome-finished window trim and bumper trim, and black overfenders. There is also a new Earth exterior color. Inside is a “Black or Stone Brown semi-aniline leather-trim on the seats and door panels with Stone Brown stitching and Black Open Pore wood accents on the center console and door panels.” Off-road all-weather floor liners will protect the carpets from your muddy Brunello Cucinelli boots. The Overtail is offered in a two or three-row configuration.

LX 600 vs LX 700h

Lexus flagship SUV

We already covered the hybrid engine and Overtrail grade that sets the 700h apart. But there are some other smaller differences between the two models as well. The LX 700h gets a center console cool box and rear manual sunshades as standard equipment. A unique shelf system has been added in the cargo space of the LX 700h with fold-flat capability. Advanced Park with Remote Park is available only on the new flagship LX. Outside of that, the two LX models are the same. The engine and the Overtrail grade are really the key differentiators.

Similarities

Ultra Luxury

You might expect the 700h to be a larger vehicle, but it is basically the same size as the 600. The overall length of the LX 600 is 200.59 inches (The F Sport Handling is 200.2 inches) and the LX 700h is 200.79. Width, height and wheelbase is identical between the two. Both ride on the GA-F platform but the 700h has a new three-cross frame. Both models use the same 10-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission. All LX models have Lexus Safety System+ 3.0. Technology and Convenience features are also the same with the exception of Advanced Park with Remote Park as we noted above. The F SPORT Handling and the four-seat Ultra Luxury grade will also available on both the 600 and 700h models (as are, we presume, the Premium and Luxury grades). They can both tow up to 8,000 pounds. They will both be assembled at Toyota Auto Body Yoshiwara Plant.

New for 2025

LX 700h badge

The LX 700h is an all-new model but there are also a few new features for the whole of the 2025 LX lineup. For 2025 the LX lineup offers five massage options for the driver and front passenger seats when equipped with semi-aniline leather trim. A front wireless charger is now standard. Head-up Display is standard in 2025. Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is now standard across the LX range. That is basically it for changes. The new hybrid flagship is obviously the biggest addition. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel and share some driving impressions with you.
