Must Watch: Toyota Supra Hits the Dyno With A See-Through Intercooler
YouTube channel Warped Perception is responsible for some wild projects. Matt Mikka dyno tests a Toyota Supra with a see-through intercooler operating at 20 psi in a recent video.
Toyota Supra is an automotive icon, and its loyal fan following spares no expense when celebrating this spectacular machine. Matt Mikka offers an in-depth look at a Supra with a see-through intercooler in a recent Warped Perception video. Our avid readers must know air-to-air intercoolers like these usually sit behind bumpers and radiators.
Mikka’s built the custom intercooler for this Toyota Supra with transparent end tanks. This particular build is not as wild as some of Warped Perception’s other projects, including a jet-propelled Tesla Model 3. While testing the intercooler, the YouTuber discovered that the tanks could not handle 15 psi of boost. Mikka’s solution was to add some metal top plates.
As a result, the intercooler was now able to hold the boost. In the video, YouTube also shares his reservations about the see-through intercooler. “I’m fairly confident that this is going to hold the pressure, but I am scared that it’s going to blow up under the higher boost, shares Mikka. He further adds, “So I’m going to take it easy on the way to AMS because if it does blow up, I want it to blow up on the dyno at AMS and not on the street.”
Throughout the video, cinematic shots of the Supra with its see-through intercooler greet the viewers.
Mikka even uses a fog machine to highlight the custom intercooler. With the intercooler performing immaculately, the presenter started turning up the boost. While dyno testing the Supra at AMS Performance, the cold side of the intercooler detonated. Interestingly enough, Warped Perception discovered that the see-through intercooler surprisingly worked even after this failure.
With the help of some temperature leads, the YouTuber was able to gauge a temperature difference of almost 100 degrees between the clear end tanks. Furthermore, the YouTuber could also visually demonstrate how an intercooler cools the turbocharger’s hot compressed air, which then flows through the air-fuel mix and delivers more power. Safe to say, Mikka was quite happy with the results.
