New Lexus Wagon, Redesigned IS Reportedly in Development

Lexus IS300 SportCross

During its recently EV announcement, Toyota spilled the beans on a future Lexus wagon, as well as a new electric sedan.

It’s been quite a while since a Lexus wagon – the IS300 SportCross – was on sale, though in all fairness, it didn’t get a whole lot of love when it was on sale. That has changed dramatically in recent years as enthusiasts have been seeking out sporty wagons, which aren’t exactly easy to come by these days. There are certainly quite a few people that would happily trade their high-riding crossover for a sporty wagon that has just as much utility, and those folks will be delighted to hear that it seems as if another Lexus wagon could be in development.

We know this because during a recent presentation, Toyota revealed plans to expand its all-electric vehicle lineup, an announcement that YouTuber Kirk Kreifels discusses in high detail in this recent video. When watching this presentation, Kreifels noticed a few interesting things in one particular slide from Toyota – perhaps most notably, the presence of a shadowy wagon-like luxury vehicle slated for the future.

Listed right next to the existing RZ and all-electric UX 300e, the electric Lexus wagon is also joined by a sedan of some sort, which is notable because that particular silhouette looks a lot like the leaked next-generation IS images that hit the web a few months ago. That particular model was allegedly set to launch in 2026, which seemingly aligns with the timeline we’d expect from something that’s not terribly far along in its development cycle.

This date is also notable because future Toyota and Lexus EVs will ride on a brand new, dedicated EV platform that’s also set to launch in 2026, while the automaker is also planning on launching a grand total of ten new EVs as well. Toyota is investing an additional $7.5 billion in electrification by the end of 2030 with the goal of “doubling” the range of its current models, thanks to more efficient batteries, mostly.

For now, details are otherwise scant regarding these future projects, but the fact that we may live to see another Lexus wagon is obviously huge news. It may not offer quite the same enthusiast-level excitement as something like, say, a V8-powered family hauler, but it’s certainly possible Lexus delivers something special in terms of driving dynamics in its future EV wagon, as it did once before.
