Four Wheel Steering: Lexus RC’s Dynamic Handling System Explained
The 2015 Lexus RC is going to be loaded with trick tech, including a Dynamic Handling System which will angle the rear wheels while turning. It’s pretty cool stuff, and the video after the jump illustrates just how much it can sharpen cornering.
Now, four-wheel steering has actually been around for quite some time, and my first car had a similar system. Of course, in a 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix, the rear wheels were angled via the accelerator, and had a bias toward massive oversteer– especially during torrential Florida rainstorms. Traction control was also standard on my Grand Prix, but instead of a button on the console, it was activated by feather-light application of the gas pedal and a silent prayer you didn’t stuff the car into a guardrail.
Yup, even three decades ago, cars were just lousy with technology. But I think things are better now. Enjoy the video.
