NSX Burns to the Ground During Test at the Nürburgring
Seems like just a couple of days ago I posted a story speculating that Honda’s next-gen NSX might be a real thing. Actually, that was less than 48 hours ago, and now ClubLexus has shots of the supercar burning at the ‘Ring.
Asimo wept.
While we don’t have power figures yet, we do know that the halo car will utilize a hybrid powertrain, and will be designed to compete against the likes of the Ferrari 458 and the McLaren 12C . There will be a total of three electric motors–one at each front wheel, and one connected to the seven-speed DSG–along with a traditional 3.7L twin-turbo V6 mounted amidships.
According to our spy photographers, this prototype didn’t even mange 3/4 of a lap before it went up in flames. While we can’t say what lead to this car-b-que, there have been rumors the engineers have been having some trouble making the batteries and the internal combustion unit play nice together. Obviously things got a little too hot under the bonnet here.
This is hardly the first time a test vehicle has gone up in flames–hell, production Ferraris burn up all the time–but that’s a club no manufacturer wants to join. At least nobody got hurt.
