NFL Rookie Fulfills Promise, Buys Dad New Lexus
Indianapolis Colts linebacker Anthony Walker isn’t just a good football player, he’s a pretty good guy too.
Playing in the NFL is a dream that millions of kids have, but very few actually achieve. And the select few that get to don a professional football uniform on Sundays usually get there thanks to a combination of hard work and natural talent. Their reward for that half a lifetime of dedication and luck? A nice, fat rookie contract.
Most rookies go out and treat themselves to a new house or car with that newfound wealth, but some players choose to honor those who helped them get there with a nice little gift. That includes rookie NFL linebacker Anthony Walker, who was lucky enough to be selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Shortly after signing his $2.6 million dollar rookie contract, Walker decided to buy his dad a new Lexus ES. But this wasn’t just a spur of the moment decision, you see. The young Northwestern graduate made a promise to his father when he was only ten years old. And that promise was to buy his hero a new car if he was lucky enough to make it to the big leagues.
“Everyone knows that my dad is my guy,” Walker Jr. said. “He’s my best friend. He’s had a big role in me growing as a man and as a football player.”
But what makes this story so special is that not only did Walker’s dad – Anthony Walker Sr. – have a positive influence in his life, he was the main influence in his life. Walker Sr. pulled double duty by coaching his son in high school and raising him from the age of two as a single dad. And it’s clear that junior doesn’t take that for granted. “Everyone knows that my dad is my guy,” Walker Jr. told Inside NU last year. “He’s my best friend. He’s had a big role in me growing as a man and as a football player.”
Our hats go off to Walker Sr. for being such a great dad and to Walker Jr. for being such a great son. And a big hat tip to their taste in cars, which is obviously impeccable.
