Now That Lexus Has Brought Sexy Back, They’re Keeping It
In case you hadn’t noticed, Lexus cars have gotten a whole lot sexier lately. And while the new design cues haven’t pleased everyone, particularly the traditionalists, sexiness is here to stay.
Remember last week when Lexus debuted the elegant new LF-FC concept at the Tokyo Motor Show? Well, apparently, that was just a sign of things to come. According to Automotive News, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda says it’s time to start focusing more on “emotional and cool” and less on station wagons and seven-passenger SUVs.
“If it had been a few years ago, the vehicle symbolizing the new chapter would have been a station wagon,” Toyoda said. “If your focus is selling more cars, as many as possible, a station wagon would be of interest. … When you say ’emotional and cool,’ it’s not a station wagon.”
To be honest with you, last year’s debut of the RC F was really the beginning of this sexiness campaign, but the campaign’s exclamation point is the LF-FC concept, which is going to pave the way for the new LS. It’s certainly the reason Toyoda is talking sexy now.
That’s not to say that a seven-seater couldn’t happen down the road, but when asked about the project, which U.S. dealers have been clamoring for, Toyoda said the plans are definitely on hold at the moment. Sorry folks, the big SUV just isn’t sexy enough.
What do you think of Lexus’ concentration on “emotional and cool”? Are you cool with it? There’s quite the discussion going on about it on the forum, so head on over there to voice your opinion.
