One-owner SC400 No Diamond White Pearl in the Rough
Living in Florida with its first owner since new, this 1993 SC400 includes a bit of gold to go with its Diamond White Pearl exterior.
For the first couple of years, Lexus had two models: the entry-level ES, and the flagship LS. Both were sedans with tons of luxury, and plenty of Japanese reliability. Yet, the brand knew it needed to grow to keep the momentum going. Thus, in 1991, the SC400 arrived with just two doors and a good bit of performance. The SC would go on to be one of Lexus’s greatest hits, a feat the brand hopes to repeat again with its successor, the LC.
And if you’re looking for an example to drive around, Bring a Trailer happens to have a one-owner 1993 SC400 up for grabs. Let’s see what 27 years looks like on a classic Lexus, shall we?
Twenty-seven years ago, the original owner purchased this SC400 from a local Lexus dealership somewhere down in Florida. The Diamond White Pearl coupe with gold badging was a stunner wherever it went. Nothing too flashy, just a solid performance coupe that won’t break down on the side of the road compared to its Teutonic competition, then or now. Alas, the owner parted ways with the Lexus, trading it in at a Texas dealership in July 2020.
Part of the SC400’s longevity comes down to the 4.0-liter 1UZ-FE V8, an engine already in use by the LS upon the SC’s arrival. Tricks with champagne glasses aside, the smooth-running V8 with roots in IndyCar made 256 horses and 260 lb-ft of torque to the rear. Throw in the famed Toyota reliability, and it’s little wonder how this coupe is still going strong today.
Within the Diamond White Pearl exterior, a well-loved beige leather interior awaits the next occupants to experience classic Lexus luxury. The odometer recorded some 79,000 miles with the original owner, and the original stereo system is perfect for playing those vaporwave cassettes you got from Bandcamp.
If you miss the days when things were right with the world, then this SC400 is ready to whisk you away. All you need is some sun, and full tank.
