RC F ‘More Complete Car’ Than Mustang GT
The RC F may not be an all-American, but its price guarantees only the experienced can play with Lexus’s big daddy coupe.
The RC F is a brute of a machine. The 5.0-liter V8 slays all dragons with 472 horses at the ready. Yet, it also offers plenty of comfort and luxury to those lucky enough to experience the beast, like any other Lexus on the road.
Of course, if you’re shopping for an RC F (or any Lexus, for that matter), you’re not cross-shopping against rides like, say, a Ford Mustang GT. After all, you could buy two of the ponies for the price of one excellent example of luxury performance. Yet, that is what Wisconsin YouTuber “Downshift” Mike did not long ago. Let’s find out why.
Big Engines for Big Coupes
“As you can hear, the big story here is engines,” said Mike. “Both cars are packing five liters of naturally aspirated V8 thunder. The five-liter in this Lexus RC F makes more power than the Mustang by about 12 horsepower […] However, where it falls short is the torque figure. At 395 [lb-ft of torque], it’s really coming in below the Mustang.”
Furthermore, Mike adds the RCF “is still underpowered” compared to its Teutonic rivals. Despite this claim, though, the Lexus sounds wonderful as always, especially with the eight-speed automatic handling the power. For Mike, its crisp shifts make the auto one of his favorite things.
