RC-F Rises From the Dead (Sea) Through Tire Smoke
Record holder and drift master Ahmed Daham brings drift magic to the lowest point on Earth with stunning carbon Kevlar RC-F.
The Earth is full of extremes, including a few places below sea level. Some are infamous, like the Salton Sea in Southern California. Others are extraordinary works of geoengineering, like most of the Netherlands. Only one, though, holds the title of Lowest Point on Earth: the Dead Sea. Just 1,412 feet below the world’s oceans, the great salinity of the sea is enough to allow all to float with ease.
It’s also the perfect stage to drift a custom RC-F. Wings purveyor Red Bull Motorsports recently linked up with Ahmed Daham for a such a feat, drifting up from the Dead Sea via Jordan’s Panorama Road.
“Ahmad Daham is a driver and tuner who’s always been on top of the game,” Red Bull Motorsports writes, “and one of the stars of the Middle East’s hugely popular drifting scene: a multiple champion and a Guinness World Record holder to boot. Ahmad has just finished building his savage new drift bull that he calls ‘KATANA’, and it’s insane!”
“Katana” is no ordinary RC-F at all. Aside from the usual drift upgrades, the entire body of the Lexus is made out of carbon Kevlar. Thus, not only is it lightweight, but it’s tough. According to DriveTribe, the car’s total weight is 2,756 pounds, compared to the showroom RC-F’s weight of around 4,000 pounds. This thing’s ready to fly around the curves!
And fly it does! Combined with the dramatic weight reduction is an equally dramatic boost in power. Normally, your showroom model’s 5.0-liter V8 makes 472 horses and 395 lb-ft of torque. Not Daham’s ride. The 2JZ under the hood delivers 1,200 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, per DriveTribe. Those are hypercar numbers, y’all!
This is a stunning work of art, this RC-F. Not to mention the gorgeous backdrop for smoking the rear meats under the desert sun. According to Daham on his Instagram, he and his team used their “decades of combined Motorsport experience […] to forge the ultimate weapon.”
As he says, “Sideways is the new way forward.” Indeed, it is.
